METAIRIE, LA, September 26, 2000…Newpark Resources, Inc. (NYSE: NR) today announced that Tom Ballantine has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of the corporation.

In his new post, Mr. Ballantine will have primary responsibility for the implementation of corporate strategy and integration of all product and service offerings within the company’s various business segments.

Mr. Ballantine joined Newpark in 1988, and previously served as Executive Vice-President of the company. He is a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and worked for fifteen years in the oil industry prior to joining Newpark.

James D. Cole will continue to serve as Chairman and CEO of the company.
